Besides rainbow mountain, another easy day trip that we took from Cusco city was to the Moray archaeological site and the Maras salt mines. Both very interesting and definitely worth a visit.
Besides travelling, we also planned to do some volunteering. We did not get to do this in South America as most places wanted us to stay for at least a month. However, we did get some volunteering done in Baray, Cambodia at Wisdom Nest School. We learnt about the school when Esther shared about the work there during one of our services.
Apart from the obvious main attractions of the Inca ruins that surround the city, Cusco has a lot more to offer. As we had 10 days there, we took several day trips before visiting the main star, Machu Picchu.

We read heaps of horror stories – drunk drivers, cars breaking down and people getting injured and dying! So we looked around for an experienced driver/guide, and had a super fun time across vast high altitude landscapes that were ever-changing and like nothing we had ever seen before! Continue reading
The air quality wasn’t the best and things were generally quite expensive, but we enjoyed our longer stay in the city. Maybe because we had just been to national parks and islands or maybe because we could slow down and live like locals for a bit.
