We spent a total of 26 days in Chile, starting from Torres del Paine in the south and ending at the top in the high altitude desert of San Pedro de Atacama. Everything we saw here was new, strange and wonderful!
The air quality wasn’t the best and things were generally quite expensive, but we enjoyed our longer stay in the city. Maybe because we had just been to national parks and islands or maybe because we could slow down and live like locals for a bit.
Everything has been going according to plan. Until now.
Besides Machu Picchu, another place we really wanted to visit was Easter Island or Rapa Nui. It’s not a cheap destination and meant that we had to give the birds in Galapagos and insects in Amazon a miss. Maybe next time.
Here’s how we (first-timers/non-hikers) hiked and survived the Torres del Paine W Trek from West to East in 4 days and 3 nights. We walked a total of 65.5km, averaging 6 hours of walking each day in the wonderful Patagonia weather. All the timings below are ours and the distances are from the national park map and Adventure Alan.
